The Wisdom Of Youth

She danced among the moon beams
Her eyes were filled with light
A hand reached out to touch her
She turned about in fright

"Have no fear, sweet young dear."
The kindly old man sang
"For I am only here now
To rid you of your pain."

"But kind sir" the girl exclaimed,
"I have no pain to rid!
I have no wounds, I have no aches,
I am but a kid!"

"Sweet young girl" the old man said,
"I know that now you don't.
But the day will come, the years will pass
And one day you will find

Your face, so sweet, is old and hard
Your joints will not unbind.
I offer you eternal youth, escape from such a fate.
A chance to dance among the stars, to never have to wait."

"Oh dear sir," the young girl said
"I have no need of this. For I do not my old age dread.
I will welcome it will bliss.
To know what I shall know then
Is more than youth can give.

Wisdom only comes with age. Without is not to live.
I dance here now among the moon
The stars shine bright and beam.
But, to know "Why?" will not come soon

Why they light my dreams.
So I thank you, for your time
and for the love you give,
But I will grow and I will change

And I intend to live."
