Fight the Light

We walk and talk
And drive and fuck
And screw the streets
and run amuck
and see the days we used to love
and teach the kids to kill the dove

We're fighting in the deepest pit
And holding with the weakest grip
And trying not to run at all
While hoping for the others fall

We'll never pass a judgement here
If all we do is commandeer
And if your god can really hear
He'll bomb us all just for our fear

We never see what's really there
We're grabbing hold the lightest air.
When we should have the deepest night
We're trying way too hard for light.

The answers now are never clear
And growing fast are all our fears.
You never take the time to see
That this is what is killing me.

The death that always came to fast
Is all that's holding up the glass
and no one seems to understand
that this will be the end of man

We try too hard,
We shout too loud
We praise the weak
and kill the proud
we stumble through the forest path
and never think of looking back

We'll never pass a judgement here
If all we do is commandeer
And if your god can really hear
He'll bomb us all just for our fear.

We ran too fast, we'll fall at last
we never could learn from the past
We never understood just why
that every man on earth must die

And now the roads are blocked up tight
the people run about in fright
while heroes of catastrophe
are thrown into the bloody sea

We never see what's really there
We're grabbing hold the lightest air.
When we should have the deepest night
We're trying way too hard for light.

We're trying way too hard for light
while others lead the bigger fight
we flee the dark, escape the night,
and never see the way that's right.

We're trying way too hard for light
we're taking off the smallest bite
bemoaning our courageous plight
while hiding from the common sight.

We're trying way too hard for light.
We're trying way too hard for light.
And though the battle may be right,
we're trying way too hard for light.
