:: A Theory On Turning Evil In the Buffyverse ::
Written By TrinityLast
With SERIOUS thanks to SalinaH20 who helped me figure out seasons one and five.

In every season (with the exception of one) someone has gone evil on the show. Season two was Angel, three was Faith, four was Forrest (see that last scene in Primeval) five was Ben and six was Willow.

And the nicer the person was, the worse the evil they became.

Lets look at this.

Angel was a loving, caring man who saved Buffy's life, and stood by her in thick and thin...even when she was a bitch on wheels (WSWB). The evil version of him tried to end the world.

Faith, on the other hand, in season three, was a bitch most of the time. She was coarse, and hard, and had a seriously bad attitude most of the time. Buffy didn't even really like her...most of them didn't. She went bad...and had second thoughts. In the last ep of the season, when she was in Buffy's dreams, she helped the older Slayer defeat the Mayor by giving her hints...and in season four, when she came back, she eventually repented.

Season four...Forrest. Was turned into a demon hybrid thing. Not a WHOLE lot of badness there...and as I recall, not a really nice guy the rest of the season, either.

Season five...Ben. Really sweet guy...spent his entire existence cleaning up Glory's mess, and went out of his way to get a job at the hospital, so he could help people. When he turned evil at the end, willing to sacrifice Dawn for his own life, he went all the way. Willing to end the world, and Dawn, and melt all the dimensional lines. He had to be killed to be stopped.

Season six...Willow. The nicest, sweetest person on the show. Loving. Helpful. Total 'research girl'. Went COMPLETY over the edge, and tried to raise a satanic church to end the world, unleashing skeleton demon things on Buffy and Dawn, after killing two men and torturing Giles.

She was the worst...and she was the nicest.

Season one, no one turned evil, as it wasn't a full season. We just didn't have enough time to fall in love with a character, or get to know one only to wind up hating them. They made the attempt with Jesse, but we didn't really see enough of him to make it work...on the other hand, he was supposedly a really nice guy...and he ended up making his best friend kill him.

We see other evidence of this, as well. When in season two, Willow and Xander are shown in The Wish as vampires, they're the Master's right hand men. Two of the nicest people are the two worst vampires.

When we see Drusilla as a human in flashbacks, she's a sweet girl who went to church, had visions and desperately wanted to be good...so much that she joined a convent. Again, possibly one of the worst vampires to ever live.

And Spike? Was a POET. William the Bloody in life was a sweet guy who was in love with a girl, sat in the corner at parties and wrote prose.

Anya was a human, she was NOT nice. Aud was jealous, protective and rather hard to take...and she was willing to curse her husband for cheating on her. When she was evil, she was evil...but she never tried to end the world...and eventually, when she was human again, she took pleasure in being a part of the world...a "...productive part of society"...and she couldn't stay evil again when it was given back to her.

Harmony made a terrible vampire...she couldn't be evil. She even was nice to Cordy when she showed up in LA...and lets be honest...not the nicest person in life.

I could keep going, but I think I've made my point...in the Buffyverse, the nicer you are, the worse the evil you turn into...so, that being said...

Who do YOU think is going to turn evil this season? And...how evil will they be?
